The Craft Academic is my blog all about craft and craft techniques. While I’ll be sharing some ideas, patterns and project tutorials with you, the main focus of The Craft Academic is to explore the place of different crafts in design, culture and history.

How old is the practice of knitting? Why was macramé all the rage in the seventies? How did people turn plant fibres and old fishing nets into the world’s first papers? What’s yarn bombing all about?

I’ll be looking at some home crafts (I personally love to knit, knot and crochet), but also exploring some of the techniques of artisans and professional craftspeople, like shoe makers, book binders, joiners, artists and typographers.

Welcome to The Craft Academic.
